Parent Involvement
Wildcards Volleyball Club appreciates the responsibility of our coaches and administration staff. They are all VOLUNTEERS... Parent involvement with the team is greatly appreciated and encouraged. To help teach the players the idea of sportsmanship, it is expected that parents will always act in a positive and responsible manner towards other clubs, parents, players, and coaches. The same positive attitude should also be directed towards our own and opposing coaches, teams, players, and parents. Parents have a large influence on players and spectators in club volleyball. Let's keep it fun for everybody!
The coaches welcome and appreciate parents' help by shagging balls, keeping score, calling lines, chaperoning, providing water/food, organizing team lunches, and providing transportation. If you would like to confront a coach regarding your child's involvement in the club, please consider your approach carefully, and use the 24/48 rule: Do not approach the coaching staff 24 hours before, or 48 hours after a tournament. This will allow an open discussion while letting the coaches focus on their jobs.
Commitment
Playing club volleyball is a major undertaking. As we are part of a small community we feel it is our responsibility to support and not compete with High School athletics and as such take all steps to ensure that our athletes can play other sports during the club season if they should choose to do so. This includes scheduling of practices and tournaments. If a conflict does arise the High School sport will take priority. This being said we ask that all athletes commit to all other practices and events. Being chosen for a team and not showing up for practices/tournaments denies a player that was cut the opportunity to receive quality coaching. Also, tournaments are our opportunity to execute the strategies taught during practices, not to play catch-up for the lessons that were missed.
Fees
The mandate of Wildcards Volleyball Club is to keep club fees as low as possible. While some clubs charge upwards of $3000 we feel that all athletes should have the opportunity to participate without being constrained by fees. We are lucky to have community partners who donate significant monies towards your child's fees. Our gym time is generously donated by local schools and our coaches are working on a volunteer basis and are not paid for practice or tournament time. Fee's will vary per age group and always depend on the amount and type of tournaments (AVA sanctioned or not) each team registers in. The coach will let you know the exact cost at the first team meeting. Please make your cheques payable to "Wildcards Volleyball Club" and include the name of the athlete and which team on the bottom of the cheque.
Rules of Conduct
The use of mind-altering substances, tobacco or alcohol will not be tolerated by our teammates or by the coaching staff.
Violation of any of these standards is not negotiable.
Failing to adhere to any of these rules constitutes grounds for suspension or expulsion from the club without refund.
