Club Philosophy
Created in 2010, the purpose of the Wildcards Volleyball club is to provide an opportunity for young players in the Rocky Mountain House area to continue to play volleyball beyond the junior and senior high school season, and excel in the sport without having to travel to the city for practices. We also endeavor to make club volleyball as accessible as possible by maintaining an economically efficient organization. In our first year the wild cards had an U16 and U15 womens teams. In 2011 we have added a U17 Womens team. 2013 saw the addition of a U14 team.
Our goal is to demonstrate the qualities and enjoyment that volleyball has to offer in hopes of creating lifetime players and contributors. Our short-term measure of success is the level of enjoyment and improvement our members experience. Our long-term measure of success is the number of players who contribute to local high school team achievements or go on to make Regional, Provincial, College/University teams. Team success is gauged by achieving seasonal goals reflecting the age, experience and ability of each group. Through achieving team success, these young adults will also develop a strong sense of individual self-confidence.
Coaching
Not only do our coaches have extensive Volleyball knowledge , they are VOLUNTEERS who live and work in and around Rocky Mountain House. Our coaches are teachers or members of the community who know kids, and more importantly treat them with respect and dignity.
Cost
The Wildcards are nonprofit. Other than a small administrative fee (photocopying, medical supplies, tape, coaches hotel rooms/fuel costs etc.), all money collected is returned directly to the players in the form of uniforms, equipment, and tournament fees/registration. Any additional costs for warm up shirts, bags etc., will be the responsibility of each team.
Success
In 2010, the U16 Womens Team won bronze in the Tier 2 Alberta Provincials and another Bronze in Division 4 of the Canadian Open. It was a great end to an exhausting 9 tournament season.
2015 U16 team won silver in div 3 tier 3 at nationals, this made the team the 18th top ranked Albertan team out of over 50 teams.
2016 had a U17 Provincial All-star and a U15 Provincial All-star. Also had one member that was chosen to the U16 Team Alberta Team
One former club player is currently playing ACAC volleyball, and one former player is signed to play CIS volleyball next year.
